With so many wildfires burning throughout the United States and Europe, many of us are looking for a simple explanation of the role of fire in the forest and the broader landscape.  Forests and landscapes in general are dynamic ecosystems that are forever in a state of growth, decline, death and regeneration. Forest fires are a natural part of that dynamic ecosystem.
